TRIX

Install and import#

bash
npm install fintech-algorithms
ts
import { trix } from "fintech-algorithms/technical-indicators/momentum/trix";

Signature#

trix(input)

The one-bar percentage rate of change of a triple-smoothed EMA of close, which strips most short-cycle noise before measuring momentum.

Parameters#

NameTypeNotes
inputTopicInputbars is a chronological array of OHLCV rows, each with a non-empty timestamp plus finite open, high, low, close and volume. From parameters this topic reads period (integer >= 2, default 14), used for all three EMA passes. The preamble also validates fast_period (default 5) and slow_period (default 34) before branching, so a bad value for either throws even though this topic does not use them.

Returns#

TopicResult

series and latest carry one key, value, equal to 100 times the one-bar ratio change of the triple EMA. Three stacked EMA seeds plus the one-bar difference make the warm-up prefix the longest of the simple momentum topics.

Warm-up#

The first 3 * (period - 1) + 1 bars (40 with the default 14) positions are null. Each EMA pass costs period - 1 bars to seed and the closing rate-of-change costs one more, so ready_at is 40 on the canonical fixture. A previous triple-EMA value of exactly 0 also yields a null.

Errors#

  • When period is not an integer >= 2 — throws Error
  • When bars do not all share one adjustment basis — throws Error

Complexity: time O(n), space O(n).

Worked example#

executed Captured by running this function on the input its own test provides. Real output of real code — but not asserted against a published figure.

How it works#

This page states the contract — how to call it correctly. The article explains the concept: why it works, and where it breaks.
